Potentiodynamic Study of The Effects of Nickel on The Electrodeposition of Zinc from Chloride Media

Abstract. The potentiodynamic experiments of the nickel effects on zinc electrodeposition have been done to understand impact Ni impurities electrowinning Zn from spent pickling liquor. chloride solutions concentrations 90 and 1 g/dm3 were used as electrolytes. latter was also mixed with in experiments. All runs carried out at room temperature 40 mV/s continuous polarization speed 1/s sampling rate. It observed that media containing started generation hydrogen bubbles, entirely blocking cathode surface. Only a slight current development until potential ~ -0,8 V. visual observation showed bubbles formed anode, which may represent chlorine and/or oxygen evolution. While, only concentration electrolyte, metal deposition hardly observed, but visible constantly blocked A similar tendency mixed-solution electrolysis cell; initial tiny accumulated surface more than pure solution. enhancement H2 evolution indicates how contribute loss useful process electrodeposition. mass deposited significantly decreases while is relatively constant. means purity produced appreciably higher – respect if efficiently eliminated solution before electrowinning.
